Bob Fortune, retired
HAPPY RETIREMENT TO BOB FORTUNE
On Dec 9th 2023 we held a retirement party for a long time employee and friend Bob Fortune. By our calculations Bob has been a staple for the Worcester business and family for over 80 years.
At the age of 7 Bob first worked for our founder John Worcester as part of the farming operation. Specifically Bob remembers his first job was riding on a planter and tying bags of grain as the planter was pulled through the fields. As time went on Bob worked for John’s son Delbert Worcester, for Delbert’s sons Tom and Alan Worcester, as well as for Alan’s daughter Audrey Worcester. Bob is a man of many talents and when he was not working for us he accomplished many goals and became proficient in many areas. Below are just a few:
CEO of the Elyria YMCA
Independent business owner
Sweet corn farmer [Sweets Farm ]
Carpenter
Plumber
Electrician
Flooring
Siding
Roofing
[never a painter by the way]
Scuba Diving instructor
Diver
Diving coach for Baldwin Wallace collage
Recover lost treasure and sunken boats
Hunter and trapper
Expert marksman with gun and bow
Worked for Bear Bow company and was their Bow marksman at public shows. Targets were thrown in the air and he would shoot an arrow [and hit the target]
Invented the Flew Flew for use on arrows. [regrets he did not get a patent]
Sailor of sail boats
Race sailboats
Fishing expert
Powerboat operator
Single engine airplane pilot [unlicensed]
Ohio National Guard veteran [Bob says they needed his skills so bad he was able to skip boot camp]
